Smart Style
Thanks to the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) and Burton Snowboards, we now have a
set of standards to use as signage and quick visual hints for freestyle terrain.
The campaign is called
"Smart Style". The orange jelly-bean
(oval) is the symbol for freestyle terrain. This symbol is similar to the
green circle for beginner runs, blue square for intermediate runs, and black diamond for
advanced runs and trails. This sign is used by resorts and freestyle coaches to help riders get
the information quickly and effectively without reading all of the fine print and copy.
Some of the main points about Smart Style are:
Easy Style It
Start small and work your way up. (Inverted aerials not recommended).
Look Before You Leap
Scope around the jumps first, not over them. Know landings are clear, and clear yourself out
of the landing area.
Respect Gets Respect
From the liftline through the park.
The respect gets respect applies to both attitudes and features.
